Well, as mentioned in my previous post, here are the pictures which got me my latest camera

The one below from Penang Thaipusam 2010 got me the 50% for the Canon EOS 550D. Wish it was free but this is one heck of a camera. I will probably write about it in my coming post.

This photo was taken during the Penang Georgetown World Heritage Day and this photo was one of the featured photo in Digital SLR Photograhy Malaysia magazine for the month of September 2010. Though I didn't win, it really is great to see ones image being featured in a magazine. It just makes you want to go out and take even more beautiful pictures (of course I hope to win the big prize too). Do leave comments.

Wow, it has been one heck of a year, full of ups and downs but I think its finally on the positive uptrend now, so I'm back to being more active here again now.

This year in photography have been quite lucky for me

A photo won me a 50% voucher to get a Canon 550D - my first highlight in any contests

Then this month, finally a photo I submitted to Digital SLR Photography Magazine Malaysia got selected to be in print (though not a winner but I guess having something printed in a magazine is always nice).

Will share those 2 photos in my upcoming posts.

Also recently been really busy adapting to a new job.....

3 January 2010 ~ CS & Sin Yee

I have to apologize for this very belated post to CS and Sin Yee. Its been a crazy January and February with work and family matter. But finally, I have gotten this long belated blog for CS and Sin Yee up and running.
I got to know CS from one of my previous clients Queenie, and got to met both of them last year. They are truly a very sweet couple, and they are also very lucky :) Won lots of wedding contests!
I reached Sin Yee's place about 6am and the makeup artist beat me to her home .... hahah. Missed it by minutes. Anyway, got of to a great start early in the morning and the weather turned out to be great! I really had a wonderful time and thanks to everyone for treating me so well. You both are really superb, and I wish you both a forever love! Stay in touch always and of course, some previews here. More at the gallery. Enjoy.

Taipei, Taiwan November 2009

Well, couldn't believe my luck when I managed to get some really cheap tickets to Taiwan this year. The trip last year was really rush and this time we spent 9 days in Taipei :) Yes, a really long time. Would like to thank my good friend Sam & his wife Rudy, and his lovely kids Peter and Rita for having us stay over at their home all this holiday.
We just traveled mainly to places accessible by bus mostly. On weekends, Sam did bring us to further places such as Jiu Fen and Yingge. So I will elaborate more in the pictures that follow. I have uploaded these to my gallery and each picture is accompanied by comments.
I would like to say that its really easy getting around Taipei via their public transport. Bus is cheapest, at TWD15 per sector to a maximum of TWD30 per trip. Draw back is that its slower. MRT is fast but goes to limited places and cost minimum TWD20.
As for food, this place is a food haven. The amount and variety is just so great. Over our 9 days, we were eating like crazy. The favourite we think would be the buffet steamboat which has Haagen Daz as dessert. Yes, free flow quality food and dessert at a very affordable TWD 480 per pax. Absolutely a bargain.
Because of these experiences, I would like to propose to couples, if any would like to have their pre-wedding taken in Taipei and its surrounding counties. Its really a beautiful place. Just pay for flights, accommodation and food for 2 person and photography is free from me. For enquiries, do email me.

4/6 December 2009 ~ CY & Caryn

Had quite a long break since an AD shoot and thus very happy that I have been given this opportunity by CY & Caryn almost more than 6 months ago. Got to know that this is the hottest date for a wedding in the Chinese calendar for 2009 and how lucky I'm to be part of this.
So, CY & Caryn, both such a lovely couple, and I had much fun being part of their wedding.
The dinner was held before the AD and this gave the couple some rest. Of course they have a very packed schedule as their honeymoon trip is right on the next day after their AD. Hope to see you both when you return.
So back to the photos. This is the first AD that I m photographing with my upgraded camera equipment. Yes, I have finally upgraded to full frame, a Canon 5D. This is truly a remarkable camera and the results are just spell binding. The photos just have an edge over the previous APS-C camera. So with that, wish you both a very happy marriage, and I have attached here some previews. The gallery will be up very shortly. Do leave comments everyone.

Alex & Alycia ~ Pre Wedding @ Genting Highlands

Well, its a once in a lifetime opportunity to get the kind of excellent weather we got when Alex & Alycia & myself traveled to Genting Highlands to have a Pre Wedding photoshoot. Hardly seen much work from photographers at Genting and thought that this should be fun to do.
So with much luck on our side, we headed there on a Saturday morning, and besides great weather, the crowd was also just nice. Not crowded and just nice for us. Guess the gamble to travel to Genting after the long Raya holidays paid off :)

I felt that with the cloudy blue sky and the natural setting here, it really gave some shots as if they were shot in a cool climate country :p

So with that, this is to provide everyone with some snippets of shots that was taken there. Haven't even included shots that were taken indoors so hope this can quench the wait for now. Stay tune.... and as always, do leave a comment. Cheers and enjoy.

Just recently updating my website gallery at www.apples-studio.com/gallery.html and added some of my more recent ~ well, last year travels. Feel that its good to be able to ensure I share these up as I think some of it is really a nice place to visit, especially with such affordable air fares now! And since food is my second love, you will see that it features prominently in my photos.

Was pretty fortunate to have been able to go to Macau and Taiwan last year. Macau is really a happening place, and food was great.

Taiwan, which was spent mainly around Taipei, I still can't forget all the night markets and its fantastic coast line. Will be heading there again this year in November and can't wait. This time will be a much longer trip and really looking forward to it!

Some of my favourite shots below:

The very very very old hotel/motel that we stayed in. Haha, what an experience. But it was cheap and right at the heart of the city. Sanya Hotel it is.

28 June 2009 ~ Wedding Reception of Hari & Kithmini

1 week after their gold smelting ceremony, Hari & Kithmini held their wedding reception at the very elegant Prince Hotel located at Jalan Conlay, opposite The Pavillion. It was a really nice place, excellent ballroom and I must say the food was excellent.

It was a pretty rush affair for their portrait shot before the dinner as there was some roadblocks, but luckily, we still managed to catch the light from the sunset.

All in all, it was a very enjoyable reception and I believe everyone had a fun time. Enjoy the snapshots and as always, leave any comments! Cheers to you both!

21 June 2009 ~ Ponnurukku (Gold Smelting) Ceremony of Hari & Kithmini

Hari is the brother of Prema. Thats how I got to know him :) I first got to know the family when I photograph their dad's birthday party last year. But anyhow, this blog is about Hari's big day.
This is a very special occasion which is called Ponnurukku or Gold Smelting. The family has their culture from Sri Lanka. Thank goes for Internet research capability.
Today, Hari will have a gold coin smelted to be made into the thaali - the bridal pendant for his bride, Kithmini. In the ceremony, the bride is not there and they are not suppose to see each other till at the wedding!
After this ceremony, there is also the Kanni Kaal Planting, basically the planting of the sacred tree to signify fertility and prosperity. A cutting of the thorny plant (not sure the name) was taken and before planting, a few pieces of precious metal was put in the soil. Then it was planted and various seeds/grains, flowers and milk and prayers was made by various members of the family! This was carried out at the grooms home and also the brides.
It was certainly a very interesting and new wedding for me and appreciate hari for having me for their wedding! Thanks alot and look forward to your reception next weekend.

Testing a Canon 5D

I was really lucky this weekend as it was a long weekend for Wesak day holiday replacement and my good friend Jon Sern loaned me his Canon 5D Full frame camera. First thing when I held the camera, wow, its so much heavier than my Canon 400D.
Then I thought, who better to be my model than my lovely daughter, Hui Cheng who is now 2 years and 1 month old (almost). I have to say, this camera really delivers on the legendary picture quality and I have attached some pictures here. Will post more in my gallery. Almost all the pictures here are unedited except for some slight sharpening. Just to highlight how great the pictures are. Do comment ya.

2 May 2009 ~ Bersanding Ceremony of Noorhamizi & Nurul Huda
So after Friday's Akad Nikah, the couple held their Bersanding at the UIA - Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Hall of Architecture (my translation).
Arrived there early and see that the stage and flowers were all setup from the day before. Then the family started arriving and before I know it, the guests were flowing in on a constant stream. I have to say its really nice to have an air-conditioned hall for this as typically it could get quite hot in the afternoon.
We are also very lucky as it rained later in the day. I really likes to thank the couple for the great time, food and your hospitality in having me for their big day. Its truly memorable and here are some pics for all to enjoy for the time being.

1 May 2009 ~ Akad Nikah of Noorhamizi & Nurul Huda

Got a call from my friend Jasmine last week that one of her buddy was looking for a photographer for this weekend. My first thought was this was a joke as it was really last minute. Later found out that the supposedly appointed photographer had an accident and broke his leg. Poor guy, hope he gets well soon.
Anyway, I was quickly introduced to Nurul. She is really sweet and we clicked. Was at her home early when she started her makeup and followed her through for todays Akad Nikah ceremony. Her hubby, was a cool dude too. These 2 make a great couple. Posting some snippets from today as the Bersanding would be to tomorrow on the 2nd of May. Stay tune.... and comments please

20/21 March 2008 ~ Leng Koung & Li Tit
For this wedding, I got a call from the groom, who introduced himself via his family name Cho :) It was also a pretty interesting arrangement as the couple was working in Singapore but their families were all back in the home town of Alor Setar in Kedah.
Thus the planning got underway and I got to cover both their wedding dinners and even their "praying to Tien Kung" ceremony. A very traditional chinese ceremony where you pray to the god of the sky! It was really late and we finished off about 1am plus. Freaking tired a miraculously managed to wakeup early in the morning to start for the big day.
Thus, got over to the grooms place first and then rush over to the brides! But really appreciate both their families for the very kind hospitality and I do hope you all like the images I got. With that, congratulations to both of ya, and enjoy some snippets of some moments from last weekend. Comments appreciated!

28 February 2009 ~ Jeremy & Jacklyn

One day, I got a call from Jacklyn and immediately got to know that her wedding is like 3 weeks away. So within the week, she had signed me up for her big day.
She was a very busy bride, but luckily, still managed to get me details to get to her place :)
Her family and herself really treated me great and really liked to thank you all for a great wedding. I think Jeremy and Jacklyn are a really happening bunch and I wish you both all the best in your marriage ya!!

There will be some downtime at my website www.apples-studio.com as I will be migrating hosting server provider. The previous provider services just gotten really bad. Many times I could not even upload simple files and have caused many delays in some of my clients viewing of layouts, samples, etc
Thus I hope after this upgrade to a different provider, things should be smooth again

3 January 2009 ~ Khin & Evonne
First off, my apologies for being more than 1 month late with this post on the blog. Its been a past crazy month for me, at work and especially with the family. But thank god everything is now going smoothly and really like to thank all my clients for being so understanding with the delays incurred. Will do my best to make up to you all ya!
Well, Khin & Evonne are really and very loving couple. I met Evonne once, and not until her AD did I got to meet her up again. We did constantly stay in contact via email. For this wedding, the "chut mun" actually happened at the brides home which is at Sepang so I stayed the night at her place.... well, more like 2 hours of nap :) But it was fun as when you look at the preparations that they did, I think they did a superb job. Evonne's family, everyone, chipped in in some way or another. And Evonne did not even sleep! You really can last!
So it was a memorable but tiring wedding for me but nonetheless, most important its one for the bride and groom. So do enjoy the pictures........

7 December 2008 ~ Kum Fatt & Wai Gi

Trying to remember the first time I met Kum Fatt, or Lee, as he introduces himself. After our met up, which I still remembers was in Mid Valley, he gave me an impression that they were a really easy going couple. I have never met Wai Gi until the actual day itself as we just did not manage to find a time to meet up.
But we were always in sync via emails, up to the wedding day. I was at her suite at Maple Suites in Cangkat Raja Chulan at 6am, and must say, it was really nice. There was a huge balcony which overlooks the KL Tower and it was just spectacular view. I guess we just clicked :) and her family treated me really warm. Thus it was a fun time with both of them and their family.
Because the ceremony was early, we manage to finish lunch about 12.30 and decided to head out to KLCC park for some pictures. Well, learned something new in that you need permission to shoot there and thus we didnt have many pictures but went somewhere else instead.
So, I wish you both a happy marriage and happy honeymoon. Preview begins.... and comments ya.

Well, this was a really nice couple to work with, from start of my photography with them. Siew Hong was actually a really good friend of my wife Apple and it was a very nice experience to work with them.
I was even invited to capture their family gathering the night before the AD, and really appreciate the warm hospitality from Siew Hong and her family. There was just so many things to capture on these 2 days, and I had a really fun and enjoyable time.
And your dinner I have to say Im truly impress with your preparaion, having a basketball court converted into a very grand dinner venue! Had a great time, and sorry for the slight delay in posting these up in the blog. Enjoy for now :)

15 November 2008 ~ Siang Cha & Tsu Hui @ Taiping

Have to say sorry to Tsu Hui (Xinney) for being late to post up this few snippet from her wedding dinner in Taiping last weekend.
I think its been more than 1 year since I got to know this lovely bride and last weekend was the first time we finally met. Met both her and her hubby and the first thing we did was get back to their hotel where they got dress into their wedding gown and we hurried to get some shots in time for their dinner.
Those photos will have to wait awhile as I'm still working on those. But those from her dinner, I have got some ready and will be posting it here.

Finally decided to join the [AG]WPJA

I have been thinking about this for a long time, since the day about 2 years back when I first got to know about WPJA (Wedding Photojournalist Association. But at that time if I remembered correctly, you can't join the Artistic Guild if you did not join the WPJA first.
Thus I skipped it :p
Recently I happen to browse at the Artistic Guild and notice that there are no restrictions, and after thinking about it, decided to try my luck to see if I qualify to be part of this association.
After waiting for 2 months, finally got a reply that says welcome! I was about to give up, thinking that probably I'm not up to par, thus, the welcome email was definitely a surpise, and a very HAPPY one.
Hopefully this will motivate me to improve my photography even further, and would like to thank all those, especially all the couples, who have or will have their wedding photography taken by me. THANK YOU ALL.

27 September 2008 ~ Nicholas & Christine's Wedding @ Penang

I guess, I must really apologize to Nicholas & Christine for being so slow for posting this. One month late. Gosh! Work has been so busy with a crazy schedule and also some travel in between. Good thing is, they both were so understanding. Of course, Nicholas is also one of my best buddies, so probably thats why he hasn't chase me every other day for photos (I did gave them selected shots already). Actually I have just handed him all the pictures so I'm glad about that too. OK, enough about me and lets concentrate back on the couple.
I have known them since they both met, hmm, couple of years ago I think they have been going out and its been awhile for all of us waiting for this day to come. I guess, again I got the chance to photograph a unique Malaysian wedding with blends of different cultures here.

13/14 September ~ Yoke Kuan & Hung Yang Wedding @ Kampar/Teluk Intan

Well, I have known Hung Yang for many years before, and recently met up again and got to know she is getting married this year. Thanks for having me as your photographer for your important day. Only weeks before did I realize that her AD date is actually the hottest date for the 8th Lunar month for Chinese calendar. Its the Mid Autumn festival day so I guess they will celebrate their wedding and the celebration each year without fail!
They held the bride's side wedding dinner on 13th at Kampar which was also my mom's hometown, thus it was a nice experience. The AD started with the groom, Yoke Kuan and his buddies picking up the bride from Kampar to Teluk Intan, which is about 40km away.
It was a fun filled morning as Hung Yang have many friends to put up a good challenge for the guys.

I have met Linda last year while at a bridal fair, and we have been in contact for a long time and finally, her wedding date has arrived
It got delayed, but I believe that everything was perfect on their wedding day! I was greeted with a big warm smile once I arrived at Linda's place in Jinjang and I knew, it would be a fun wedding. Food was everywhere, and really appreciate you and your family for treating me so well.

25 May 2008 ~ David & Cherie's Wedding Day @ Penang

Well, I got to know Cherie through her housemate in Singapore. That was almost more than 1 year ago. How time flies and now its finally her wedding day in Malaysia. They have already have their marriage in the USA.
So the Sunday morning was the first time I met the couple and they were so super friendly. Treated me really nice. Thanks alot both of ya!
So got to her place at 7am, went to the Bridal house for her makeup, and almost got late to get back home. Apparently we left the place just as the groom was heading there for his hairdo (Chinese customs states that the bride and groom can't see each other before the ceremony).

22 March 2008 ~ Abhi & Ashima @ The Andaman, Langkawi

Well, this is a wedding at one of the most exotic locations you can imagine, great sun, sand and a fantastic beach. This is Abhi & Ashima's wedding, held at The Andaman, Langkawi. I met them a day before the wedding, and they are a truly sweet couple. Very easy to get along with, and it was a very fun time getting to know them. We met at the pool side, and too bad I didn't bring my swimming trunks.
This wedding was one of the more intimate ones I have been to. Everyone knew each other, all the best friends was here, everyone was just so happy for the couple! Like Abhi said it, this is a wedding to share with everyone, as it was a sort of reunion for many that came from around the world. 16 March 2008 ~ Ashley's First Birthday Party

Last week, got an enquiry from Alesia that her baby daughter, Ashley will be celebrating her first birthday party. So me and Apple were really looking forward to celebrating Ashley's birthday with them. Well, Ashley's birthday is on March 19, so this is a be-early party! All her family, relatives and friends were around. It was held in Tropicana and after the party, they had some quality family time at the pool! 1 March 2008 ~ YS & Allyson @ Bukit Mertajam
Well, in Chinese tradition, the lady will hold the wedding dinner before the gents side. This was what this day was about. It was abit special though, as their Actual Wedding Day will be on the 9 March 2008 in Kuala Lumpur. So some of Allyson's relative are not able to attend her AD in KL, thus they had their tea ceremony in Bukit Mertajam, Allyson's hometown.
I got to her place about 10.30am, and she was already all pumped up with excitement. Soon we were off to do her makeup, and we had some time after that since we were waiting for YS to arrive from KL. Have to admit, he still had lots of energy to spare after driving more than 3 hours. After that, a short rest, and then to the dinner. It was really fun working for YS and Allyson, and all her family. This as always, a quick summary of the days events. Enjoy, and do leave a comment.

23 February 2008 ~ Ramesh & Queenie's Wedding @ Kuantan

This is the second chapter of Ramesh & Queenie's Wedding which was held at Kuantan. This time around, it was following a more Chinese tradition where the groom had to go through some "hurdles" in order to get to the bride. This was followed by a tea ceremony and then the elegant wedding dinner. All in all, it was a great experience photographing this couples wedding, and I'm sure everyone had a very memorable experience. I hope that I manage to do them justice, as I'm sure Queenie was very anxious to see what Ramesh had to go through. Also, Ramesh, you are a really lucky guy to have such good buddies supporting you all the way, and of course luckier to find a fantastic bride like Queenie! 16/17 February 2008 ~ Ramesh & Queenie's Wedding Day

I met Queenie the first time over supper about 12.30am. That was right after a wedding I covered. She was nice and pleasant and I very thankful that Apples-Studio was given the opportunity to photograph their wedding. They had a Baha'i Wedding which was a first for me as well. Very interesting and most importantly, simplicity. Really enjoyed both Ramesh and Queenie as they are a really nice couple which I enjoyed workin with. Looking forward to their other wedding reception coming weekend in Kuantan too! Till then, some shots over the last weekend.

19 January 2008 ~ Suresh & Suba's Wedding Day

After a month, its time for the wedding. As expected, it was a very colourful event. Seeing both of them was really enjoyable. I think the guests was excited as well. Interesting ceremony done by the priest. They even signed their marriage certificate at the temple hall. Wishing both of them a happy marriage together

Well, this was suppose to be a planned photoshoot of this lovely couple, but they were so burnt out after their holiday in Medan that we changed the way we shot it on that day. Minimal poses, more natural shots was the theme.
So we started our journey from Paramount Garden LRT, to Petaling Street, Central Market, and then to KLCC. It was really fun for me and hope for them too. And as always for the blog, heres the preview. Enjoy.

23 December 2007 ~ Jonathan & Ivy's Wedding Day

Well, I met Ivy through a good friend of mine and I gue ss thats how I met the couple. We never actually got to meet up prior to the wedding, even though they engaged me many many months back. Well, so I met them on their wedding day, and I must say, they are one of the friendliest couple that I have met. I wish them both the very best in their future, and thank you very much for having me take part in your special occasion. As always, a sne ak peak on their AD. Enjoy.

15 December 2007 ~ Suresh & Subashini's Engagement

Well, my good friend Suba just got engaged! Its been almost a year since she told me about this and have asked me to reserve my calender for this event. I must say, I'm glad I did. It was a very memorable engagement and really would like to thank Suba and Suresh for having the trust in me to cover their very special occasion. Well, enough of me typing, here are some snippets from their engagement. Now I can't wait for her wedding coming January. Well done Suba & Suresh!

18 November 2007 ~ Swee Beng & Suk Lai

Congratulations to Swee Beng and Suk Lai! What a wonderful couple. We met them ike just 2 weeks ago and happen to have this weekend free and thus a new friendship was born. It was another interesting wedding with the grooms hometown in Kuala Kurau and the bride was in Penang. Thus the day started early in the morning, about 6:30am and ended about 10.30pm. The bride and groom was so full of energy. We even had a chance to grab some quick snap shots at a nearby padi field in Kuala Kurau. All the best to this lovely couple. Here are some quick highlights deom photos that were prepared for their express slideshow which was shown during their dinner.

We just got back last weekend from another baby shoot and this time, its little Jun Hou from Subang. When we got there, he was still a little quiet and haven't really warmed up yet. After awhile, I guess he started his groove! Apple and I had a great time, thanks to Jun Hou's mommy Jasmyn. Thanks so much Jasmyn for having us come over and giving us the opportunity to capture a little of Jun Hou's moments. And the food, we loved it! This is just the quick preview, and hope you like them.

10 November 2007 ~ Swee Hua & Hui Mei

This was a beautiful wedding dinner hosted by Swee Hua and Hui Mei! It was held at the Flamingo Hotel in Ampang, Kuala Lumpur. The setting was great with many balloons, especially the ones lining the grand isle...

This is cute as when we tried to use the soft toy to make him smile, he saw this round thing on the top of the soft toy, he just can't wait to eat it! All the babies are like that, they will try to put all the things on their hand into their mouth! See the 2nd picture, he is putting his toes in his small mouth! haha...

This is call "The mother's hand".
I love this the most because it feels so warmth! "Who ran to you when you fell down?Mother! Who holded you when you feel cold?Mother!"
